Microchipping is one of the most important steps to take when you get a new pet. Having a microchip and registering it to you is the best way to ensure that you and your pet will be reunited in the event of a separation. While a microchip doesn't automatically guarantee a reunion, not having a registered microchip reduces the likelihood that you will not be reunited with your pet. Losing a pet would be an absolute tragedy, and we make this recommendation to you because we want to keep that tragedy from becoming a reality. We employ the use of the Homeagain microchip at Indian Creek Veterinary Hospital.
We recommend annual physical check-ups for all pets, and twice yearly checks for pets who have entered their senior years or who have a chronic health condition. Our comprehensive wellness checks for each pet ensure that a full physical examination will be completed, in the effort to determine whether the body is functioning normally. During our annual and biannual examinations, we do a complete nose-to-tail physical check, parasite testing, and organ function testing. Our complete physicals help us to achieve early detection for health problems and to promote longevity.
Parasites are a big health concern for pets, that's why we recommend all pet owners use complete prevention year round. We have many products available for the prevention of heartworm, roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, ticks, and to keep fleas from developing in the house. In our area, these parasites are prevalent year-round, and ticks can spread a number of dangerous diseases to our pets, so it's important to always keep pets on these preventatives. We have chewable, topical, and Injectable preventatives that are both safe and effective. We will discuss which option is best on an individual basis.
Prescription diets are an excellent way for pets to receive medication through alternate means. We carry Hills Science Diet for a variety of health needs, including allergies, dental health and joint disease. We recommend these specialized nutrition plans on an individual basis for both dogs and cats. We carry and recommend IVet diets, a veterinary exclusive diet, for dogs and cats not needing prescription food.
A lifetime of wellness care is an essential aspect of each pet's overall health. At Indian Creek Veterinary Hospital, we provide pet wellness examinations for pets of all ages, specifically catered to their life stage and health care needs.
